Muang Thong, Port gear up for key ACL 2 showdowns
Two Thai League 1 sides, Muang Thong United and Port, will be in action in the AFC Champions League Two on Thursday.
Muang Thong take on Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors from South Korea for a Group H battle, while Port face Singapore's Lion City Sailors in Group F.
The Kirins started off the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Malaysia's Selangor and their coach Gino Lettieri told a pre-match press conference on Wednesday that this game could have a strong bearing on Muang Thong's chances to qualify for the next stage.
"This is an important game for our team as our chances of making it to the next round depend on the outcome of this game," said Lettieri.
"Jeonbuk are a strong team and have the advantage of playing at home, but we believe we are ready for the match. I am hoping our tactics will work and we will be able to at least get a point from this game.
Muang Thong right-wing back Tristan Do said: "We have had a couple of training sessions with the coach, and he has made a few adjustments to our game. "We know that Jeonbuk have several good players, but I believe that we are capable of producing a good result in this game."
The match between Jeonbuk and Muang Thong will kick off at 3pm (Thai time) at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, South Korea, and will be live on YouTube channel BG Sports.
In the other ACL Two match, Port will be at home to the Lion City Sailors.
Port had a last-gasp goal against Indonesia's Persib Bandung with Willen Mota coming off the bench to score an 89th minute winner two weeks ago.
Lion City Sailors will be looking to build on their opening day 2-0 win against Zhejiang FC of China.
A win for either side could see them taking a significant advantage in the race to seal the two spots that guarantee a place in the last 16.
The match between Port and Lion City Sailors will be played at Pathum Thani Stadium (BG Stadium) and will kick off at 7pm.
