ONE Championship’s Takeru will use Rodtang fight money to build school in Laos
ONE Championship kickboxing superstar Takeru Segawa showed he is in the Christmas spirit by revealing plans to use money from his Rodtang fight purse to build a school in Laos next year.
The Japanese icon will also open another school for disadvantaged children in Vietnam in April – and could extend his generosity to Thailand too.
Takeru is certainly busy enough preparing for the biggest fight of his life on March 23. “The Natural Born Crusher” will headline ONE’s return to Japan at Saitama Super Arena against Thai striking superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
That has not stopped him helping others who are less fortunate achieve their own dreams.
“I’m building a school in Vietnam and it should be completed by April,” he told the Bangkok Post. “I have an opening ceremony in April next year.
“Just before that, I have a fight against Rodtang, so I want to use that fight money to build another school in Laos.
“If there are any poor areas that I could contribute to in Thailand, I would also consider doing it.”
The 33-year-old Takeru – a former three division champion in K-1 – also showed his charitable side in October when he donated part of his purse from his win over Burmese fighter Thant Zin to help victims of the recent Myanmar floods.
He has continued to help those less fortunate, with a series of visits to schools in Laos last week for kickboxing classes.
Takeru also donated Christmas gifts such as stationary for the children and money for the installation of drinking water purification systems and the repair of bathrooms at the schools.
“Everyone was energetic, cheerful, and empowered,” he wrote in a social media post documenting the visits. “I wish everyone a good and hygienic environment to achieve their dreams and goals.
“I was happy to see that since I came to ONE Championship two years ago, the children recognize me. I will do my best to give more children around the world a chance to dream.”
