ONE Championship: Supergirl among three hydration fails at Fight Night 34 weigh-ins – but Jarvis vs Eersel title fight holds
“Supergirl” Anna Jaroonsak was one of three fighters who failed hydration at Thursday’s official ONE Fight Night 34 weigh-ins in Bangkok – but the main event between George Jarvis and Regian Eersel will go ahead as planned.
Both men successfully cleared hydration and made weight for their lightweight Muay Thai title clash at Lumpinee Stadium, keeping the top of the card intact.
Supergirl, meanwhile, was unable to pass hydration despite multiple attempts, ahead of her atomweight Muay Thai bout with Bulgaria’s Teodora Kirilova. The fight is expected to proceed at a catchweight.
She returned for a third try right as the clock struck zero – bur was not allowed to test, as her sample did not meet the minimum requirement of 10 millilitres.
There were two further failures: Russia’s Shamil Adukhov, who was due to face Ellis Barboza in a strawweight Muay Thai opener, and Azerbaijan’s Elbek Alyshov, set to meet Jeremy Pacatiw in a bantamweight MMA contest.
Pacatiw of the Philippines also had a scare when he came in heavy on his first attempt – but made weight on the second try, clutching his chest in relief and saying, “Thank God!”
The three fighters who failed to pass were able to return after the end of the official hour window. Once they give hydrated samples, they can negotiate catchweights with their opponents – who will receive a percentage of their purse.
Elsewhere, Turkey’s Zafer Sayik was briefly caught celebrating before realising he was still two pounds over the limit for his bantamweight Muay Thai bout against Suakim, who is set to make his US Prime Video debut after a string of highlight-reel knockouts on ONE Friday Fights.
But Sayik returned to make weight, and make the fight official.
Eersel, 32, had failed hydration for his last outing in April – a trilogy bout against Alexis Nicolas – which saw him stripped of his lightweight kickboxing title. But after hiring a nutritionist for this camp, the Surinamese fighter made no mistake on the scales this time.
ONE Fight Night 34 airs live on Prime Video in the US and will be broadcast globally across more than 190 countries.
