Thai League 1 champions Buriram United edged South Korea's Pohang Steelers 1-0 to maintain their unbeaten run in the AFC Champions League Elite on Tuesday night.
Brazilian striker Guilherme Bissoli scored the only goal of the game, with the win taking Buriram to seven points, while Pohang remained on three.
The home side almost found a way through in the seventh minute after Bissoli's headed pass set up Supachai Chaided to advance into the box before he was closed down by Pohang keeper Hwang In-Jae.
Pohang had their chances, with Hong Yun-Sang and Baek Sung-Dong both missing their efforts from inside the box before Jorge Teixeira mistimed his header sending it over the bar.
Buriram started off the second half with added aggression and their strategy bore fruit in the 56th minute when Bissoli turned in Sasalak Haiprokhon's cross from inside a packed six-yard-box.
The South Koreans came close to levelling the score just after the hour mark when Wanderson's curling set-piece from outside the box just missed the bar, while Lee Tak-Seok failed to find the target from distance in the 64th minute.
Three-time Asian champions Pohang poured bodies forward but it was not meant to be their day after Oberdan's header hit the crossbar, and Buriram held on to seal the win.
Buriram head coach Osmar Loss told a post-match conference: "Today, I am very happy with the team for picking up this win.
"We had analysed Pohang Steelers' game as they have lots of strong points and are dangerous opponents.
"We had to adjust some tactics because Pohang came at us after we got the goal. We just had to stabilise things on the pitch. It was a good performance by our team."
Buriram will travel to Yokohama on Nov 6, while Pohang will be looking to revive their campaign when they entertain Shandong Taishan of China.
Meanwhile, Port will host China's Zhejiang at Pathum Thani Stadium today for a Group F game while Bangkok United will be at Lee Man of Hong Kong in Group G of the AFC Champions League Two today.
Port will be looking for a win against Zhejiang before taking on Singapore's Lion City Sailors in a rescheduled match on Oct 31.
