Rodrigo wants to continue coaching Thai futsal team
Miguel Rodrigo is keen to see through his contract with the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) which will see him coach the national team for the 2024 AFF Futsal Championship in November this year.
The Thais exited the Fifa Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan at the last 16 stage following a 5-2 defeat to France on Friday.
Rodrigo said on Sunday that his contract had not expired yet and he would want to be in charge of Thai dugout at the AFF Futsal Championship, which will take place in Nakhon Ratchasima from Nov 2-10.
"I feel really sad that we couldn't make it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup," said the Spanish coach upon the team's return to Bangkok.
"We have to congratulate France for winning the game, although they weren't very polite to our team during the match. At times, their behaviour was unacceptable to me, but it's all over now.
"I want to apologise to all the Thai futsal fans. At the end of the match, I couldn't control my emotions and received a red card.
"Every player played very well at a high level. From what I saw at the World Cup, I think everyone did a wonderful job.
"We did well especially when we scored a goal against the French team and made it 2-3. We tried to create a chance to equalise but the French defended well."
Rodrigo added that he needed to return to Spain to tend to some personal business.
"I will be back after that. I don't know yet if I will be able to complete my contract as it is something for the future.
"Thailand will need to start training for the AFF tournament in October and I will really want to coach them in this event because this could be my last assignment for them."
