The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT) has named 10 players for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, which will take place in Thailand in December.
Davis Cup stars Maximus Jones and Kasidit Samrej were both included in the team, with the selection based on the world rankings as of Aug 16.
"There are 10 players who are eligible to participate in the 33rd SEA Games later this year according to their world rankings as of Aug 16," said Suchai Pornchaisak-udom, the LTAT president.
Apart from Maximus and Kasidit, the men's team include Pawit Sornlaksup and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul and Pruchya Isaro.
Maximus, Kasidit, Pawit and Wishaya made the team due to their singles world rankings while Pruchya was selected based on his doubles ranking.
In the women's team, Mananchaya Sawangkaew, Lanlana Tararudee, Thasaporn Naklo and Patcharin Cheapchandej were selected based on their singles rankings while Peangtarn Plipuech earned a spot via her doubles ranking.
"These athletes have gained experience from competing in local and international tournaments and that was good preparation for the SEA Games," said Suchai.
The 33rd SEA Games will take place between Dec 9-20 in Bangkok, Chon Buri and Songkhla.
Gender testing will be mandatory at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, said Chaiyapak Siriwat, the chief operating officer of the SEA Games Federation.
"The testing protocol depends on each federation responsible for that sport. The SEA Games Federation is independent and not under the Olympic Council of Asia. Therefore, all regulations are the sole prerogative of the SEA Games Council," said Chaiyapak.
"Three countries have already requested gender testing at the SEA Games, and this will apply to every sport. The Thai athletes can also be subjected to this random test," he added.
