The trophy for this month's PT Grand Prix of Thailand in Buri Ram was unveiled at a press conference yesterday.
Representatives of government agencies and private sector backers of the prestigious event, which will take place on Oct 25-27, were present at a press conference held in Bangkok yesterday.
Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Governor Dr Gongsak Yodmanee, who presided over the press conference, said the trophy design represents a mix of Thai traditional values and modern trends.
"The inspiration for this modern trophy design has come from the Phanomrung Historical Park and the wai symbol to present a 'Throne of the King of Speed' theme," said the SAT chief.
"The MotoGP is a world class competition which is watched by more than 800 million people around the world and this is the fifth time that we are hosting this event. With less than a month to go before the race in Buri Ram, all parties concerned are working hard to make this event a big success."
PTG Energy Public Company CEO Rangsun Puangprang said: "It is the first year for PTG to be sponsoring this event and we will be backing the race for a minimum of three years.
"We see this as an important event, which can help promote the country and propel tourism and economy in Thailand, especially in the host province and the nearby areas."
This year besides cheering the world class riders, the Thai fans can also cheer the host country's Somkiat 'Kong' Chantra in the Moto2 race.
Somkiat will be racing in the top tier starting next year when he will become the first Thai rider ever to participate in the MotoGP class.
