Shadow Singha Mawynn shook off another ONE Championship contract snub after defeating the legendary Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong last Friday night in Bangkok, insisting “I will keep doing my best”.
The 24-year-old Thai caught the “Killer Kid” with a knockdown in the third round en route to a unanimous decision in the ONE Friday Fights 92 main event at Lumpinee Stadium.
But he was still left hanging on a US$100,000 deal – and did not even receive a bonus from ONE boss Chatri Sityodtong, despite taking out another contracted ONE fighter.
“Well, I believe that I did my best,” Shadow told the Bangkok Post.
“I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get the contract or the bonus, because I believe winning against Sitthichai is already enough.
“I wish I could get the bonus to bring my mum on a trip, but it’s OK.”
Shadow would have no doubt found himself in the top five of ONE’s featherweight Muay Thai rankings, too, but is ineligible as an unsigned fighter.
“I have no idea about the rankings,” added Shadow, who also defeated former ranked fighter Jimmy Vienot.
“Maybe I will find myself in the rankings but it would be greater if I got the contract with ONE Championship.”
Though the 33-year-old Sitthichai’s greatest achievements have undoubtedly come under kickboxing rules, he is still a revered name in Muay Thai – and now one of Shadow’s biggest wins to date.
“I’m very happy I got the victory against a legend like Sitthichai and also a win at the end of the year,” he said. “All I can do is just do my best and fight every fight as best as I can.
“I don’t have any names for who I want to fight next but it doesn’t matter because I intend to make every fight the best.
“I give the victory to my mum, and the next fight I will win the bonus and the contract, so let’s go.”
